Gill Slaughter is the founder of RedfernVision. The initial concept came from incorporating both Gill’s maiden name (Redfern) with what she strives to represent.
Red – energy, action, passion and determination
Fern – personal growth, when you know better, you do better
Vision – both what we focus on and what we aspire to become.
After a break of a few years to focus on family and her professional career, the immersive energy of event photography has lured Gill back to the pit once more...
History Vault.
Gill discovered her love of black and white photography at high school over 30 years ago. Her 7th Form year (yr13 for the younger audience!) consisted of many hours in the darkroom, processing film, manipulating light, shadow and time to achieve the right image. Nothing digital back then!
After an OE and tertiary study, Gill worked in the hospitality industry in Ōtautahi, Christchurch during the mid-'90s when the opportunity arose to own a photography studio and collaborate with some really talented people. There was also no shortage of hospo staff and friends who were keen to be models! The images below are a selection from that period.
